The KBP&D Story
I'm a mother to three amazing children, a Jersey-shore-to-the-core kinda girl, and am grateful to God that I have my family, my friends and my life, and blessed beyond measure to have this story to share of how I came to know photography as my passion and career.
I graduated from the University of Delaware in 2004 with an education degree and further cultivated my teaching expertise in the dance and musical theater classroom when I owned and operated a dance studio from 2005 through 2009. It was during my third year there that I purchased my first DSLR to take pictures of my students (and my own children, of course!). I longed for a camera that could catch a shot as quickly as my preschooler blew a bubble or before my leaping ballerinas could touch the floor. I wanted the ability to take a shot with a clear, focused subject and blur out my background.
For my growing family, I left my studio in 2009 and took that awesome DSLR with me. Picture taking was always a favorite hobby of mine and I often carried my small basic digital just about everywhere I went. The only problem was I had no idea how to use that monstrous DSLR! It was then that I decided to take a basic photography course. I loved it. I wanted more. So I took another one. Then another one. The next thing I knew, I was advertising for photography sessions and handing out my newly made business cards.
My photography undertaking took me to places I never dreamed of. The knowledge and experience I have gained through its challenges have rewarded me time and again in both my professional and personal life. I have had many awesome opportunities to capture some of life's most important moments for so many - newborn children, exchanging of marital vows, multi-generational gatherings, first Christmases, couples about to become parents...
I am now beginning my 5th year as a self-proclaimed “professional” photographer. I look forward to the years ahead of doing what I love and improving my craft.
